I believe the review of Hacking Linux Exposed, by Steven M. James on 27-Aug-2001, to be a fake. (You can see the reviewer's 'about you' area here.)

While I'm all in favor of positive reviews (this was a 5 star, after all) I don't want reviews that aren't genuine associated with me, or my book. Thus I asked Amazon to remove it in this email.

Unfortunately, their response was that it within their guidelines. (Which, IMHO, seem to be pretty damned lax.)

So I keep this review on the www.hackinglinuxexposed.com reviews page simply so I can express my concern over it. It does not seem that Amazon puts any real restrictions on reviews to make sure that folks can't "spam" them. By putting up this page, I may even risk having fake negative reviews posted about my book. Oh well. Wish me luck.
